Mike Visits Thailand
Mike spent two weeks in Thailand in late June, traveling with friends from Ft. Lauderdale. They enjoyed Bangkok, Chiang Mai and other locations, and played beach bums for a few days in Koh Chang, a seaside resort on the east coast. They also visited some orchid nurseries in the Bangkok area, including Kultana Orchids where
Mr. Keeratikul (“Golf”) Sophonsiri (left) gave them the VIP treatment. Bangkok’s “weekend market” is famous for the amazing selection of goods available, including orchids like this wonderful grammatophyllum (above). We wish our lychees (below left) and local dragonfruit were as huge and gorgeous as the ones Mike found there! It was durian season (below right), too… we’re very grateful that Mike brought back only photos of this Southeast Asian delicacy, as its “aroma” is overpowering.

Summer price list
Our regular customers will receive our updated Summer price list in the mail very soon. The catalog here on the website has been updated accordingly. Be sure to check out all the new arrivals!

VIP Visitor
Rey Ruiz, famous Cuban “salsero” vocalist (with four platinum salsa albums to his name) visited the nursery in late June. He’s a plant lover, too!

New phyto fees
The new pricing, effective immediately, includes an unfortunate but un- avoidable increase in the minimum fee for a phytosanitary certificate, from $50 to $75. The government agencies who perform the inspections and issue the certificates have raised the charges for “phytos”. These charges affect orders shipped to Arizona and Hawaii, and to international orders as well. Please note that we don’t make a dime on charges for phytos and export documents (CITES), we add the net inspection/document cost on to orders without a markup.

Recent Awards
Judges at the AOS West Palm Beach Judging Center bestowed an 85-point AM/AOS on our Rhynchostylis coelestis ‘Crownfox Violetta’ in June. This is one of our favorite summer-blooming species, and we have gorgeous plants available in our catalog. Although it wasn’t awarded, we also submitted this amazing Vanda Robert’s Delight with its incredible variegated leaves. The flowers are really beautiful, and so is the plant itself! Another plant of our Vanda tessellata (alba × aurea) population was also awarded at that judging session… congratulations to Tom Coffey of Naples, Florida for the AOS Award of Merit on it. We have more of them available in the catalog, too!

Travel with Bob to the Ends of the Earth!

We are thrilled to announce our November Deluxe Tour to Patagonia! This is one of the most exciting itineraries we’ve offered in years. Check out the details and send us your reservation right away, as this group will be limited and interest is very high. If you go, you’ll visit penguin rookeries and sea lion colonies, watch whales, see the Perito Moreno Glacier and much, much more! The tour includes a few days in Buenos Aires, too, for a tango and a gaucho barbecue!

Now Showing
Summer is the growing season for most orchids, but we always have some beautiful things blooming even this time of year. The Rhy. coelestis and Schomburgkias (below) are blooming, and our big Vdps. lissochiloides (right) is just starting to bloom. This is an amazing flower, yellow with brown markings on the front, hot pink on the back! And if the summer storms don’t knock the buds off (as they did last year), our ghost orchid will be flowering by mid-month.

It’s “miracle fruit” season again, too. If you already know the secret, don’t tell! If you don’t, join one of our weekend garden tours and experience it for your- self. We promise, you’ll be amazed!
We have free garden tours on weekends (weather permitting) at 11am and 3pm, and we’d love for you to visit. If you need a map or directions to the nursery, those are here on the site (“contact us”).

We’re delighted to announce the publication of “Robert’s Road, Chronicle of an Orchid Tradition”! This is the story of three generations of orchid growers in South Florida, the life and times of the Fuchs Family, the history of R.F. Orchids and lots more. Order your copy today!
