R.F. Orchids Takes Top Honors at 64th Miami International Orchid Show
“Paradise Found’, R.F. Orchids’ spectacular 500 sq. ft. display in the Show, swept many of the show’s top awards on Thursday, Feb. 25. Judges bestowed the prestigious American Orchid Society Show Trophy, AOS Gold Medal and Artistic Certificates to the amazing exhibit, which also took the trophy for the best exhibit in the 500 sq.ft. Open Class entries and the prestigious Marion Sheehan Award for Artistic Merit. Reflecting the show theme “Passport to Paradise”, the display replicated a hidden garden with large rock formations and tranquil pools, surrounded by hundreds of blooming orchids. Designed “in-the-round”, the exhibit offered spectacular views from every angle.

Many individual plants in the exhibit were recognized with trophies and prestigious American Orchid Society (AOS) awards.

We were honored to have the show’s Grand Champion, C. lueddemanniana ‘Crownfox Goliath’, which also won the Best Cattleya Species, the Fred Fuchs Jr. Trophy for Best Species, and the AOS’s highest award for flower quality, the FCC/AOS. The Reserve Champion, Trichoglottis amesiana ‘Crownfox’ CCE/AOS was also in our exhibit and was honored with the AOS’s highest award for culture.

Additionally, three plants in our exhibit, loaned by our good friend Tom Coffey, received recognition: a Phrag. Fritz Schomberg received an AM/AOS and the Best Cypripedioideae Trophy, a Paph. Janet Kunkle received an HCC/AOS, and Phal. amboinensis 'Perrin Henderson' AM/AOS was the show’s Best Phalaenopsis Species. Congratulations Tom!

Now Showing
Despite this cold winter, we do have gorgeous orchids blooming in the garden! Our stunning specimen C. lueddemanniana is in full bloom, and the C. aurantiacas are lighting up the trees. We always have beautiful vandas blooming, and our huge specimen Onc. sphacelatum plants are in spike now, to bloom late in the month or early in April. 

We have free garden tours on weekends (weather permitting) at 11am and 3pm, and we’d love for you to visit. If you need a map or directions to the 
nursery, those are here on the site (“contact us”).

Our latest price list is now available. Our regular customers will get a copy in the mail. If you’re not on our mailing list, send us your postal address and sign up your email address so we can add you to our records. We hope to start emailing updates later this year (postage keeps going up and up!), so please help us get our list in good order. We don’t sell or give our list to anyone. The catalog listing here on the site has been updated, and these lists supersede all previous lists with respect to pricing and availability.

Calendar Notes
Springtime is showtime, too! Be sure to visit our sales booth if you’re planning to attend the Key West Orchid Society Show (March 5-7), the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden Orchid Festival (March 12-14), or the Naples Orchid Society Show (March 19-21).

We will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 4. The nursery will reopen for our regular business hours on Tuesday, April 6.
